Instructions for preparing your pup for surgery

Picture
Read carefully and follow directions to the letter

1.  The night before, bathe your dog in chlorhexidine shampoo.  If you cannot find this the next best option is human dandruff shampoo.  if you cannot find either, just use dishwashing soap, the importance is that your dog be clean and free of fleas.

2. Feed your dog small amounts of food up to 3 hours before you arrive at the clinic.  Do not starve your dog many hours, that is dangerous to young dogs, you must feed your puppy a small meal up to 2 hours before arrival, then stop.   If your appointment is at 8 am you will get up at 6 am and feed him his small meal and water him.  Then take away all food and water and bring him in at 8am with an empty stomach.

DO NOT keep your puppy off of food and water for more than 3 hours before bringing it in as this creates a dangerous situation for anesthesia.  Again, all pups must eat a small meal 2 hours before surgery, then take away all food or water.

3.  If your pup has diarrhea, vomiting, won't eat, coughing or any thing else that is out of ordinary, do not bring it in for surgery, cancel your appointment with us and take your pup to your regular vet for an exam.  Your pup can only come in for ear crop if he is completely healthy.
